New Jersey advocates for medical marijuana have been in a standoff with Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey. The standoff appears to have ended in a compromise that could put medical marijuana on the New Jersey market for seriously ill patients by mid-2011.
The new regulations announced today (12/3/2010) will provide for six growing and distribution sites for medical marijuana in various parts of the state. The governor had wanted to limit the number of growers to two and to have only four distribution sites. Out of all the states that have legalized safe access to medical marijuana, under the new regulations - New Jersey would become the only state to limit the amount of psychotropic chemical in marijuana grown in New Jersey.
The previous Gov. Jon S. Corzine signed medical marijuana into law as he was leaving office in January 2010. This made New Jersey the 14th state to legalize medical marijuana, however the incoming Gov. Christie has spent the bulk of the year stonewalling and haggling with lawmakers and advocates over how to carry out the law. Sound familiar San Diego? Regardless of how New Jersey patients see the new regulations - one thing they can say is that AT LEAST SOME FORM OF CLEAR AND TRANSPARENT GUIDELINES ARE BEING MADE!!! Let's see if our locally elected officials and regulators will take the bull by the horns and implement clear rules and guidelines FOR SAFE, RESPONSIBLE ACCESS for San Diego patients.... Any one placing bets?
